Project overview

Off grid in the middle of town

Most off-grid houses get built where the power lines do not reach. This one is on an ordinary street in Cambridge, with the grid running straight past the gate.

The owners chose it deliberately. It is their forever home and they are retiring into it, and one of them works in the electricity industry, so they have a fair idea which way power prices are heading. Energy security drove the brief before anything else did.

TAWA Architecture designed it as a passive house. Higgs Building Co built it in structural insulated panels. Finished 2026.

Stills do not quite carry what the house feels like to walk into, so we shot it wide, mid and detail to get as close as photographs get. The drone work does the other job, which is showing how normal the street around it looks.

The set was made for the architect and the builder at the same time, so one shoot covers two sets of marketing. We also filmed the owners talking about why they built it this way.
